Honouring Women’s Month

Every year in August, women’s month is celebrated in different ways all around South Africa. This year, Valcare ran their second campaign aimed at uplifting women in the Cape Winelands. The Proteas of the Valley initiative identifies and honours 31 fierce females that are flourishing where they are planted. Women who are making a real difference in our community.

Inspirational women from Paarl to Stellenbosch and Wellington to Franschhoek were nominated by the public and selected by a committee to be this year’s Proteas of the Valley.

It was a glamorous affair at Kronenburg Estate, fitting for the queens that were honoured.

High Tea Celebrations

On Tuesday 28 August 2018 Valcare hosted a stylish high tea event at Kronenburg Estate to honour and motivate the ladies to continue with their great work.

Previous Miss South Africa, Miss World and local Paarl resident, Rolene Strauss, was the guest speaker encouraging the ladies to always be the best versions of themselves. “The only way to find true fulfilment in life is to find and follow your purpose, to give more than you take.” – Rolene Strauss.

The MC, Simone de Wet, MD of Val de Vie events, shared each Protea’s incredible life story, moving the audience to tears. Every nominated lady also received a gift hamper and a lucky draw added a fun surprise element to the afternoon.

Telling Women’s Stories

Another way the Proteas were celebrated during the month was with a Facebook and Instagram campaign on Valcare’s platforms and in the local Paarl Post newspaper. Each day during August a new Protea’s photo and story were published generating incredible interest from the community with more than 60 000 people reached and 22 000 people engaging in the posts. The afternoon was filled with high tea delicacies and a line-up of inspirational speakers.

Women are strong pillars in our community and they need to be recognised for the tireless work they do. A heartfelt thanks to each Protea of the Valley and every other woman, not only for what they do, but more importantly, for who they are,” says Ivan Swartz, CEO of Valcare
