Valcare recently hosted another inspiring networking event, connecting over 130 members, partners and funders in one of the biggest events Valcare has hosted in over two years.

The Valcare Amazing Race, which started and ended at Ashanti Estate in Paarl, showcased the excellent work that our nonprofit member organisations are doing.

“The Valcare Amazing Race is an intriguing, entertaining, and a one-of-a-kind way to ensure relationship building, networking and collaboration amongst our members. These components are at the core of our membership network. It is always encouraging to see so many organisations and people in one space,” said Jolanda van der Lingen, Valcare’s Relationship Manager.

Attendees were split into 12 teams to complete volunteer work at 20 nonprofit organisations across Paarl, Paarl East, Mbekweni, and Wellington. In true South African style, the teams jumped into taxis that took them to their pit stops, where they were to complete various tasks within a specific timeframe.

Some of the activities included washing dishes, making beds, baking cookies, packing donated clothes, writing encouraging letters to prisoners, playing sports and making lunch for children at a soup kitchen.

These organisations were pit stops for the activities:

Paarl: Khula Development Group, Salt and Light Kids, Amado, CANSA

Paarl East: Athlone House of Strength, Drakenstein Association for the Physically Disabled, Fountain of Hope, Samaritan’s Feet, Drakenstein se Jong Doudruipples

Mbekweni: Gratefulness Community Soup Kitchen, Inceba Trust, Visionbox, HearX, The Clothing Bank

Wellington: House Andrew Murray, Ma’s vir Wellington, Mosaic, Hope Prison Ministry, Outside the Bowl

“It was so great to meet new people, connect and learn about other organisations and the work they do,” Tarryn, MC Paarl
