The Love My Valley movement has just been launched in the Paarl Valley with a mission to mobilise locals to live kind and compassionate lives.
Love My Valley is an initiative of Valcare, a social impact company that manages social investment funds; and facilitates a network of hundreds of nonprofit membership organisations in the Cape Winelands.
The movement follows their successful Covid-19 Food Support Programme in 2020, where thousands of individuals and local businesses joined hands to enable 3 million meals to more than 43 000 vulnerable people in just five months.
This selfless collaboration between people in the Paarl Valley highlighted the possibilities of what can happen when people stand together for a good cause.
“We are collective of people, businesses and organisations who all want to make a difference in our local community. We are stepping up and standing together to show compassion towards the people that make this valley a better place. Everyone is invited to join us!” says Ivan Swartz, CEO of Valcare.
Throughout the year, a number of local projects will be launched to create responsible opportunities where people and businesses can show compassion and be generous in easy ways.
For the first project, they are raising funds to hand out Fleet coffee, Raw Squeeze juice and Mosaic bakery biscuits to hundreds of healthcare workers at Paarl Provincial Hospital and Paarl Mediclinic on the 8th and 9th of April 2021. This is to thank our healthcare workers that have been working tirelessly on the frontlines of the Covid-19 battle for more than a year now.
The public is called to donate by scanning the Snapscan or Zapper QR codes displayed on the Valcare website, social media channels and on posters that can be found at various points throughout town.
You can also donate a cup of coffee when you visit the Fleet roasteries at either Val de Vie Estate or at KWV Sensorium.
Aside from the specific projects, Valcare is also calling on local businesses to establish constant Love My Valley funding streams throughout the year, that will be channelled through Valcare to credible nonprofit organisations in the valley.
“Love My Valley is not a once-off project – it’s a way of living to enable people to leave a lasting legacy in the valley. Every single person who live or work in the Paarl valley or surrounding areas, are invited to join the movement, in whatever way they can,” concludes Swartz.
Current partners include KWV Foundation, Pure Legacy, Val de Vie Foundation, Aslan Trust and Hanneli Rupert Getuienistrust, Fleet Coffee Company, Raw Squeeze, Mosaic and Café Frenchie, but the partnerships are not exclusive and many more businesses are invited to step up and get involved.
