You’ve heard about Black Friday and Cyber Monday but have you heard about GivingTuesday?
On Tuesday, 30 November, South Africans will join a worldwide movement promoting charitable donations on the Tuesday following Black Friday.
GivingTuesday was created in 2012 with one simple goal: to encourage people to do good.
Joining millions around the world
This year marks the 10th year of this global celebration of generosity and the movement grows bigger and bigger as more people are inspired to share a little of what they have with someone in need. According to GivingTuesday.org, last year alone, 34.8 million people participated in GivingTuesday worldwide.
Whether you’ve participated in GivingTuesday before or you’re unsure what causes to support, there are a lot of great causes you can support in your own way.
Supporting credible nonprofits in the Cape Winelands
Valcare coordinates a membership network consisting of hundreds of nonprofit organisations in the Cape Winelands (click here to view our member list). Each of these organisations are doing amazing and impactful work in their communities. They understand the needs of the people and are doing everything they can to meet them.
However, many of these organisations have ongoing physical and volunteer needs; and we are always on the look-out for individuals, corporates and foundations to take hands and help where they can.
This GivingTuesday, Valcare is encouraging and challenging you to donate goods, still in good condition, to worthy causes in our community.
How to participate in GivingTuesday
- View Valcare’s members need list on www.valcare.org.za/member-needs/
- Go through your cupboards, and select the items that are new or still in good condition that you would like to donate.
- Or, go to the shops and buy some of the items on the needs list.
- Drop the goods off at Vuka Co-working space (3rd Floor, New Link Building, 1 New Street, Paarl)
Valcare will then receive the goods, record them on our donation system and allocate them with nonprofit member organisations that really need them.
“Some people rely on the generosity of others to survive. As we pause and reflect on the year, may we turn our gratitude into a tangible act. All donations are meaningful and each one of us has the power to make an impactful difference in our communities,” says Valcare CEO, Ivan Swartz.
