As the festive season draws closer, many people are preparing for a special time of celebrations. The reality for most families in the Paarl valley however looks completely different.
With 60% of children in South Africa living below the breadline, thousands of children won’t be able to receive Christmas gifts or educational supplies for the new school year.
Through the Love My Valley Christmas Gift Drive, residents in Drakenstein are encouraged to open their hearts and hands to donate Christmas gifts to vulnerable children.
The gifts will be distributed through regional registered nonprofit organisations during December 2021, in partnership with Valcare, the project managers of Love My Valley.
How To Get Involved
Between 15 October 2021 and 15 November 2021 people can contribute to sponsor Christmas gifts worth R350 each that will go towards vulnerable children between the ages of four and six.
Local businesses are challenged to commit R3500 to sponsor 10 Christmas gifts.
There are two ways of contributing:
- Financial Contribution:
Donations can be made into Valcare’s bank account, or use Snapscan or Zapper on Valcare’s website to donate with your phone.
Valcare; Bank: FNB; Account number: 627 194 400 84; Branch: 250 655Valcare will then purchase, pack and distribute the gifts on the donors behalf.
- DIY – Buy, Pack and Drop*:
Head on to the shops to buy the items
personally, which should include:
- School bag
- Toothpaste
- Tooth brush
- Bar of soap
- Wash cloth1 x Educational supplies (For example: crayons, colouring pencils, sharpener, pencil bag, hardcover book)
- 1 x Small sweet
- 1 x Educational unisex toy (For example: play dough, colouring book, blocks, picture book, puzzles)
All pre-packed gifts should be dropped at the Vuka Social Impact Co-Working space
(Third Floor, Newlink Building, 1 New Street, Paarl) by 15 November 2021.

Love My Valley is a movement of kindness that was launched by Valcare at the
beginning of 2021. The mission of the movement is to inspire locals to make a
difference through practical acts of generosity that will support vulnerable people in
the area.
