KERISHNIE’S STORY

“I was raised by a single mom who is a farmworker. We didn’t have much. My mother was however always passionate about her work and did everything in her power to provide for us. Since I was a girl she would tell me that I should make the most of my life.

So when the opportunity came to join the Good Company Programme at the Paarl Youth Initiative, I jumped at the chance.

Looking in the mirror back then, I saw a shy girl with a poor self-image staring back at me. But, I listened to my mother’s words and the guidance of the facilitators from Paarl Youth Initiative and decided to grab every opportunity with passion.

At the end of the programme, I was a different person. I had developed into a strong young woman. I felt so proud of what I had achieved.

Today I am proud to say that I am studying Horticulture at Elsenberg Agricultural Training Institute.

One day I will be a successful Fruit Inspector, and in return, I’ll be there for my mom when she needs me most.”
